Iīve done it once (and if I have the time this weekend; maybe while the
polyester filler on the front is drying I will do it on my new Mini too)
and itīs quite easy.
- Undo the gearlever box cover, which you just have to press down
a little and rotate anticlockwise (I guess)
- Then take out the old gearlever.
- Drift out the pins on the box which secure the cover
- put the alloy extension on the box and fix it with the screws
which go into the old pin holes.
- Now comes the hard bit, as you need the spring and the plastic
cap from the old lever as they normally donīt come with the
quickshift. For this you have to cut the old lever, so use
special tool 18G34angle-grinder and cut the old lever into
pieces.
- Apply the spring and the cap to the quickshift.
- put the lever into the box, the cover onto the top - et voila fini !!!
- Sometimes you canīt shift into revers gear as the spring is
maybe to long for the new lever (happened to me). Then cut away
a bit from the spring or the lock of the cover. Donīt cut the
spring too far as you will draw the lever out of the shift
mechanism when reversing (happened to a friend, he used it as
an immobiliser, just draw the lever out of the mechanism and it
wobbles around)
Cheers
Michael, hoping I didnīt
confused you too much.
