Sagged doors problem

My drivers-side door has dropped by about 1/2 an inch, making it difficult to close without slaming it. What's happened to make it drop?

Comments from Ted Andkilde:

Hi Andy, either your hinges are getting worn (easy fix -- remove and replace in a few minutes) or your hinge panel is rotten.

To check internal hinge car, open your door a few inches and lift it up and down while someone watches the hinges from inside the car if the two halves of the hinge move separately the hinges are shot, if the hinge moves as one piece and the panel it bolts to flexes, it's rotten.

To fix a rotten hinge panel, you probably need to remove the A-panel, prod around to see the extent of the rust and replace the metal as needed.

On an external hinge car, the hinge pins can wear over time -- they can be replaced as long as the casting isn't damaged. The inner A-panel can also rust and allow the door to sag.

Cheers, Ted

Additions from Captain Ken:

Hi Ted

Actually you can change the pin AND the bushes in the hinges on external hinge cars. They are a little bit fiddly but quite simple
