A Place in the Sun

A Place in the Sun (1951),film adaptation of Theodore Dreiser's novel, "An American Tragedy." The early 50s film, a period piece which reflects its times, is powerful in the way in which director George Stevens plays on the audience's emotions, involving and drawing it into complicity with the tragic resolution. Methodically, the film is stylistically dark, almost with film-noirish qualities. It is Cliff Montgomery's one of best film allthought he hiself did not respect it very hightly.
